Use of CDs for Musical Accompaniment

Both CDs and tapes may be played to be played for the accompaniment to dances. However, CDs give a better sound quality, and please note that marks may be deducted for poor quality sound accompaniments.

If you use CDs we would prefer a special CD to be created for this purpose, with a single track for the accompaniment as Track 1 on the CD (in the same way that, for tapes, we required them with a single track, rewound to the beginning and ready to play). To make a copy of a CD track in this way you must own the copyright of the track from which the copy has been made (as a general guide, this means you must own the original CD). However, it is entirely the responsibility of the performer, not the Festival, to ensure that you have such a right and are entitled to make a copy for these purposes. As with tapes, it is expected that, if necessary, CD tracks will be suitably edited for length. The Festival will not undertake to time tracks and stop them before they exceed the specified time limit.

Alternatively, you may submit an original CD, together with a note specifying the track to be played. Again, the Festival will not undertake to time tracks and stop them before they exceed the specified time limit. It is therefore essential that they are within the time limit in their original form.

Facilities for playing tapes will continue to be provided.
